Installing Maverick

Posted by: ශාකුන්තල | Shaakunthala on: 22/10/2010

My 3-year old laptop’s DVD drive no longer works correctly, so I had to find an alternative method to install the fresh out of the oven Maverick Meerkat.

So it’s USB. First I tried unetbootin but it seemed not installing the bootloader properly. Since I’m not familiar with GRUB2 it would’ve been extra workaround for me.

Fortunately there was a handy tool provided with Ubuntu itself. It’s usb-creator. A similar tool can be seen in Fedora too.

Anyway, it looks like unetbootin is no longer effective with later distros.

My DVD drive’s been down for two years and installed each version with a USB. It’s faster than a CD install.

mobile phones that have built in cameras are my favorite because they can capture those special moments and events :’`
